Costa Rica

Costa Rica is located in Central America, a territory between North and South America. It limits to the north with Nicaragua and to the south with Panama.

The Costa Rican culture is the reflection of the mixture of races that coexist in the country. The main influence is European, which is demonstrated in aspects such as the official language - Spanish -, the architecture of churches and other historical buildings. The indigenous influence is less visible, but it is present in the tortillas that are part of the typical Costa Rican food and ceramic crafts. An important aspect of the Costa Rican cultural heritage is its love for peace and democracy.

The 'Ticos', as Costa Ricans are also known, are famous for being hospitable people. They are educated and hardworking, they like to smile to people and shake hands.

One of the most important and recognized characteristics of the country, is the abolition of the army, which was dissolved on December 1, 1948 by the former president José Figueres Ferrer, date in which peace became one of the main qualities of Costa Rica.

Because of its position, the warm climate predominates; however, you can find many different microclimates throughout the country. In general, the climate is very pleasant both in the dry season that extends from December to April and in the rainy season, which includes the months of May to November. During rainy season, showers are usually expected in the evenings, while the mornings are sunny.
